Completed NEA

Dear Moderator,

My name is Joshua Giles. Welcome to my A Level Media Studies blog. This is a record of the work I have undertaken for the Making Media Non-examination Assessment (NEA) within the OCR H409 GCE A Level course in Media Studies.

I worked independently on Brief 3: Magazine and Online to produce the front covers and contents pages for the first two editions of a film magazine called Movieverse together with the magazine's accompanying website.

Research and Planning

Further down in my blog you will find evidence of my research and planning for this task.

NEA Task 21 (Planning) : Photography Planning

 Photography planning

1. Who will you be using as your models for each photograph (bear in mind that your photographs need to show representation of two distinct social groups)

In the process of casting models I decided for that the two main front cover photographs I am going to use my friend Phoebe and myself. This means that there is a clear representation of the two different social groups male and female. For other photography such as my website and contents pages I will also use both male and female friends as models.

2. What thought needs to be given to the following elements of mise-en-scene?

In terms of location for the first edition I would like it to be set in a very simplistic location, so that all the focus can be drawn to the 'actress' in the new Marvels film. Ideally I would like the photo to be taken on a simple set just like a traditional photoshoot would be. For my second edition I would like the location of the photograph to be in a cinema style setting. In relation to costume I want myself and my model to wear basic clothing as the main coverline is about the actress herself who plays a massive role in one of the worlds most renowned film franchise Marvel. For my second edition I would like to incorporate props into the photography. I want to wear retro 3D cinema glasses, this is because I want me as a model to reflect Movieverse magazines film enthusiastic audience. I want this magazine to encapsulate the whole cinema experience and I think this vision of the front cover image does so. When it comes to taking photographs for my first edition I want my model Rose to use positive body language such as a warm smile and to portray the actress's fun personality which differentiates from the role she plays in the film. For myself I am also going to portray positive body language, and look like I am having a fun time watching the film.

3. Who will be taking your photographs and what equipment will they use?

For all of the photography excluding one magazine edition front cover I will be taking the photos. However when I am the model I will ask a trusted friend who can act under my direction to take the photos. All photography will be taken on my mobile phone.
